Grandson of Joseph Clair, founder of Domaine Clair-Dau, Bruno Clair assisted by his long-time cellar master and associate Philippe Brun, run this Classic 22-ha Marsannay estate. The vineyards holdings stretch from Marsannay to Savigny-les-Beaune. This formidable team (2 star-Revue des Vins de France Guide) produces classic Burgundies, delicious when young with velvety structure and long, persistent finish.
Tasted from the tank in March 08, this dark-coloured wine had a wonderful, soft texture with lots of ripe red berry fruit. Soft tannins, and a finely-tuned streak of acidity, this toothsome wine, as with many Burgundies 2006s will be ready to drink on release.
The vineyard les Vaudenelles, 1.58 ha, is located at the top of the slope; the soil is poor because of the levelling bedrock. It produces a Marsannay that is fine and elegant. Its colour is slightly lighter than that of its peers. The wine always has pronounced aromas, is supple and easy to drink.
