This 27-ha domaine has been a reference in the appellation for the last 15 years. This consistency is due to the incredible work done by Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, both in the vineyard and at the winery. Here, the quality and consistency are second to none, the wines are modern, full-on flavoured with finely grained tannins and an incomparable velvety structure.
In 2008, Revue des France awarded their second star to Chateau du Cedre.
This cuvee was known as cuvee "Le Prestige" until the 2005 vintage. From now on, Pascal Verhaeghe simply calls this wine "Chateau du Cedre"
90% Malbec, 10% Tannat matured in oak barrels. Powerful and intense nose of black prune, liquorice and smoke. Full-bodied, thickly-textured but finely crafted and showing and impressive freshness this amazing Cahors has delicious, fleshy black fruit, woodland and gamey character. Fine, ripe tannins.
"A more modern, but brilliantly-crafted Cahors, that is one of my all-time favourite wines. Deeply concentrated ripe dark fruits with a firm cloak of tannin, and an excellent finish. A rare steak or duck confit would provide a good match. "
