CHATEAU DU CEDRE, Le Cedre

CHATEAU DU CEDRE, Le Cedre

2005 CAHORS AC
red South West 75cl

This 27-ha domaine has been a reference in the appellation for the last 15 years. This consistency is due to the incredible work done by Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe, both in the vineyard and at the winery. Here, the quality and consistency are second to none, the wines are modern, full-on flavoured with finely grained tannins and an incomparable velvety structure.
In 2008, Revue des France awarded their second star to Chateau du Cedre.

Cahors AC. This cuvee is surely the finest Malbec wine in France and the World and enjoys
a cult-like following. Black as ink, soft and remarkably sensual it is creamy and concentrated with rich black fruit and liquorice flavour, rounded off by the subtle vanilla backdrop imparted by its oak ageing. This is the ultimate expression of Malbec from Cahors.

“The top treacle-thick cuvée “Le Cèdre”, made from the oldest vines on the estate, “as cypress black as e’er was crow”, sweet, perfumed and plum-pruney. Decant and be awed. This is 100% Malbec from 30-40 year old vines and miserly yields of 30hl/ha. The recipe is exacting: a tri de vendange, destemming, a light pressing, vinification at 30-32 degrees with pigeage and a 40 day cuvaison followed by a 100% malolactic fermentation in new oak barrels. The wine is then aged for twenty months where it acquires its fabulous colour, almost impenetrably dark with glossy purple tints. With its thick cassis aromas and wild raspberry fruit this is a meal in itself and should be eaten with great reverence and a long spoon.” Douglas Wregg
