The Domaine Barthod-Noellat was founded in the late 1920`s and is a fusion of the work of two families: Noellat & Barthod. Gaston Barthod, whose family originated in the Jura, married into the Noellat family and took over the direction of the domaine after his military service concluded in the 1950s. Gaston Barthod was a highly respected winegrower, and he and his estate had a very good reputation during his 40 years tenure.
The joys of "terroir" are no more evident than when tasting in the cellars of this tiny, but important, estate. Ghislaine, Gaston`s daughter, began an intense apprenticeship with her father in the 1980s. She has brought new vigour and a distinct touch to every area of concern from vineyard management to vinification but always with the profound regard for the purity of pinot noir and the character of the wines of Chambolle.
Under her leadership, the reputation of this estate has deservedly grown internationally. The Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is now a standard bearer for the great wines of Chambolle Musigny.
“Sharing expanded wine-making facilities with her husband, Louis Boillot, Gislaine Barthod continues to render some of the purest, most expressively fruity and consistently excellent as well as age worthy Pinots in Burgundy.” Wine Advocate
"Medium to dark ruby-coloured and sporting a nose of violets and black fruits, the Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is produced from a high elevation vineyard. Its medium to full-bodied personality reveals awesome depth of fruit, breadth, and density. Crammed with lush fruit, its rich character offers blackberry jam, grapy cherries, cassis liqueur, and black cherries. This chunky, weighty offering is also extremely well-balanced, pure, and long in the finish. "
