Owned and run by the Olivan family, this 25-ha bodega lies well hidden in the little-known Valle de Jubera. Viticulture is organic – “always has been here, why do I need certification..?” - with no use of herbicides and pesticides, sheep manure is used as fertilizer. Hand harvest...ing is employed for all their vineyards. Great care is taken to provide the healthiest grapes of the highest quality, as nearly all the wines will experience extended ageing.
Hacienda Grimon is based at the foot of the Monte Grimón mountain range (hence the name) in the village of Ventas Blancas in the district of Lagunilla de Jubera, 15 minutes from the Rioja provincial capital of Logroño.
The current bodega was constructed in 1999 over their grandparent’s old family house and their first vintage of the Grimón wines was in 2002.
All Grimon`s wines are made from their own grapes, a rarity in La Rioja.
The Rioja Reserva is a blend of 85% Tempranillo with Graciano and come from a rigorous selection of grapes from 2 older vineyard parcels. It as spent 24 months in French & American oak.
The wine is intended to express the character of the best Reserva wines of years gone by. Big structure, perhaps a bit more “showy” than the other Grimon`s wines but in no way as oaky and confected as many a modern Rioja. A wine designed to cellar for many years but can be drunk now.
