Fronton is a highly unique winemaking region located on the left bank of the Tarn River about twenty miles north of Toulouse. The area is generally flat, with occasional hills that create small slopes. The vineyard’s subsoil is composed of ice age deposits, topped by alluvial soil and rouget, a material very rich in iron that lends a particular flavour to the wines. The typical climate of the region is similar to that of Bordeaux: warm and dry in the summer, and mild and wet in the winter. Fronton is the only area where Negrette grapes are planted, it can be blended with Cabernet or Syrah. Domaine le Roc was taken over by brothers Jean-Luc and Frederic Ribes in 1988, it is regarded as the leading estate in Fronton. Very low yields, hard work in the vineyards and organic viticultural methods result in wines full of personality and true to their origins.
Cuvee Don Quichotte is the flagship wine of the estate, it is a blend of old vine Negrette and Syrah. Intense in flavours on the nose, dark fruit, game, herbal mix with hints of coffee; the palate is rich and savoury, yet fresh and balanced with intense blackberry, cherry and almonds, seasonned with wild herbs and white pepper.
