| Niepoort may not be the biggest Port house in the Douro, but is certainly one of the very best. Colheita means “harvest” in Portuguese and as the word implies is made from a single year’s grapes. It is thus vintage port, but made in the tawny manner, with a minimum of seven years in the barrel. In practise the wine is kept in the wood for much longer; this is the peak of the tawny style and is very much a Nieeport speciality. It is a gorgeous wine, with wonderful reductive aromatic nose followed by ripe figs and roses. |
