Bergerie de la Bastide is a joint venture between a négociant-grower, Stéphane Vedeau, and a professor of oenology at Montpellier, Claude Serra, both of whom are champions of the terroir, usually ignored at this level in favour of fashionable grape varieties.
These are real wines, packed with personality and Southern France warmth and flavours.
The Bergerie de la Bastide white is a blend of Vermentino (30%) and roughly equal proportions of Grenache Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. It reveals subtle notes of dried herbs, white flowers, white fruits and fennel with a touch of citrus. The wine is well balanced by a fresh acidity. A wine that will hold its own with shellfish and crustacea.
