Yves Gras produces ultra-ripe, multi-layered wines from his 22-ha estate in Gigondas and he has been one of the AOC leaders and one of the most consistent for a decade or more. Exchanging ideas with Pascal Verhaeghe (Le Cedre in Cahors) and Luc de Conti (Tour des Gendres in Bergerac), Yves Gras` Grenache-based wines are fruit-driven, long-lived and balanced.
The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2003 Gigondas Les Hautes Garrigues Cuvee Prestige offers up a superb bouquet of acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, scorched earth, and a hint of barrique. Medium to full-bodied, with high levels of tannin. Extremely concentrated and powerful, it requires 5-6 years of bottle age to reach its full potential. The 2003`s blend was 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre, 3% Syrah, and 2% Cinsault. R.Parker 89/91pts
